Maybe its just me, but is anyone else getting an error with the Adwords Editor when trying to post to an account?

I fired up my Adwords Editor this weekend and was prompted to update to the new Adwords Editor Ver. 3.5. I quickly got excited b/c the AE is one of my favorite tools but this update didn’t include much to tickle my fancy. That’s not to say there aren’t some cool updates included (official release notes) but they are not features I will find particularly useful outside of the drag and drop functionality.

Version 3.5

New features:

* Image ads: View, add, and update your image ads on the new Image Ads tab.
* Drag and drop: Copy or move items by dragging them to their new locations.
* Region and city targeting: Choose additional location targeting options for your campaigns.

Other updates:

* New keyboard shortcuts are listed in the Data menu.
* The Delete Multiple tools and Add Draft Campaign are now accessible via the tab tool bars.

Also, miscellaneous fixes and improvements.

All of those are fine and dandy but I have my own Adwords Editor wishlist:

  • Import from CSV – The lack of ability to make mass changes within the AE interface forces this one to be the top of my wish list. Have you ever tried changing 10,000 URLs at once within AE? Its not fun. At one point I was able to use the add update multiple listings feature, but when you paste the same keywords in with URL or other changes, AE ignores them because they are considered duplicate keywords, even when you select the override option.
  • Position Preference settings – Pretty straight foward, I’d like to be able to set my position preference for keywords / ad groups within AE.
  • More Stats Options – Right now you have 3 options for viewing your stats, yesterday, 7 days or 30 days. Some more flexibility would be nice.
  • Better Layout – No doubt that the AE provides a ton of useful info but the layout is extremely cramped and rearranging column sizes is a PITA

    • Thats it for now. I’m sure I’ll put more in as I stumble across them. Do you have any suggestions for the AE team?

    My favorite tool that I reported as being broken last week is fixed and upgraded with a vengence!

    Before I go into the new features heed this warning: Make sure you Upload all your pending changes before you upgrade!! (IE. All pending changes will be lost during the upgrade process since AE re-downloads all your data.)

    SERoundtable reports some new features:

    • * Site targeting: AdWords Editor now provides full support for site-targeted campaigns.
    • * Negative sites: Add or edit negative sites for keyword- and site-targeted campaigns.
    • * Edit while you wait: If you manage multiple accounts with AdWords Editor, edit another account while your changes post.
    • * Count your selection: The status bar now displays the number of rows you’ve selected in the data view.
    • * Pause or resume ads, keywords, and sites: Use the Status menu in the edit panel to change the status of selected items.

    And these “upload features”:

    • * Export to HTML: Your HTML export will show or hide deleted campaigns, depending on how you’ve configured your preferences. The HTML export is ideal for showing your account to someone who doesn’t use AdWords Editor.
    • * Export to CSV: In addition to account, campaign, and ad group snapshots, you can now export custom views. The CSV export is ideal for spreadsheets or other applications that can read structured data files.
    • * Paste to multiple ad groups: Select multiple destination ad groups via the Edit menu > Paste Special.

    Any other features you notice or would like to request?

    With all of the updates Google is doing to the Adwords console, I hope they don't forget that it impacts the Adwords Editor. Changes can still be posted but getting any recent changes results in an error.

    I love the AE, I hope Google fixes it. Please?!

    While I’m sure the average Joe PPC guy wont notice, those of use who have been managing a lot of large accounts for a while will really feel the impact of losing the Bulk Sheet Link.

    Google’s bulk sheet download link, allowed you to download the entire campaign into an Excel spreadsheet, which then allowed us to make large scale changes quickly and easily. They are removing this link and pushing people towards the Adwords Editor. I am a big fan of the Adwords Editor, I wish it would allow us to publish a bulk sheet of changes rather then having to use the AE interface for it.

    Just when I thought the Googler's had forgotten about my favorite Google tool, the Adwords Editor, I recieved a pleasant surprise this morning when I opened up my little program. The Googler's have put out an update for Adwords Editor.

    Version 1.1

    New feature:

    * Mark a campaign as a draft until you’re ready to post it to your account.

    Also, miscellaneous fixes and performance improvements for downloading accounts with large numbers of Ad Groups.

    Minor changes, but it is good to know they are still working on it. Next I’d love to see drag and drop functionality and a right click menu. hint hint
